Baby Step #1 - Get prepared! We have all the essentials we need, including a Nuby Potty Seat, Pull-ups and underwear from Old Navy.
Baby Step #2 - Make it fun! Whether it's singing a funny potty song or doing a little dance, always make it fun, not stressful. I just ordered Caillou potty time books from Amazon, because Baby C mimics everything Caillou does.
Baby Step #3 - Be a role model. Put the potty seat next to your toilet. Every time you use the bathroom, take your toddler with you and hopefully he/she will try it too. We also put Baby C's favorite stuffed animal on the potty for encouragement.
Baby Step #4 - Praise! Give your child praise for each baby step they accomplish. For Baby C, she would sit on the potty seat, but wouldn't let me pull down her pants. Last night, however, she sat on the potty without her pants! Hip, hip, hooray!
Baby Step #5 - Be patient! It might not happen overnight and there may be set backs. Remind yourself and your toddler, that it's okay.
Baby Step #6 - Pray! 23 The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. 24 Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.
Psalm 37: 23 - 24
As I mentioned above, we received the Nuby Potty Seat to help us get prepared for potty training. It is sized perfectly for Baby C. It's a stand-alone potty with a non-skid base, comfortable seat and removable basin that is easy to empty and clean. The potty seat is designed for little boys and girls to use it comfortably.

ReplyDeletefor our little boys we let them run around in just a pair of underwear so they could 'feel' when they needed to go better.
ReplyDeleteWe do a sticker chart then when she goes 10 times she gets a small present.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't started yet, but one tip I heard is to teach kids to "push down their pants", not pull down their pants. It's too confusing (and grammatically wrong???)
ReplyDeleteI am open to any/all tips! I am a first time mom. My daughter is 7 months old, so it's not quite time yet, but it will be here before I know it!
ReplyDeleteM&M's work great for potty training! It's amazing how one little piece of chocolate can inspire a child to use the potty. They get one for pee and two for poop!

I would take my son to the potty every 1/2 hr to 1 hr or so for a while and ask if he had to go and have him sit down and try, this was to get him to associate the act of going potty to the toilet.
ReplyDeleteConsistency is the answer, I trained both of my boy in two week, day and night. Also no more diapers immediately, they wore little undies and they loved not having diapers so I think that helped them to train faster (no pull ups).
ReplyDeleteWe start early. Have a potty seat in the play room, the bathroom etc. At least so that they see it and get used to it and it's not scary when it's time.
ReplyDeleteWe've only just started with my son and having set words associate with it has been helpful.

naked time works!
ReplyDeleteIn all honesty, I have a 16 month old and a 2 week old, I haven't begun potty training, but am ready to start the my son (the older one) when he's a little older
ReplyDeleterewarding always works
ReplyDeleteTake frequent potty breaks
ReplyDeleteSometimes a little naked time helps! Lol. It worked for my son. Two accidents quickly helped him learn to use the potty.
ReplyDeleteI was always told that kids will start potty-learning when they're ready. Another thing I hope to try- cloth training pants that let them feel wet but don't waste my $$! :)
